  1. I’m using this for recording my guitar performances with both my iPhone 6+ and my iPad Air2.The software is free and you can also use it with any other iOS video/audio software, too.The recorded sound via the stereo mics is noticeably superior to the iPhone’s microphone. The recorded sound via the guitar input and mono mic is also really good and the video looks great!Be sure you use the volume wheel on the side of the iTrack to adjust the signal level. You want a Green sound level indicator and not yellow or red but just into the green beneath the yellow volume to get the best quality of undistorted sound. One challenge with this is that it is very light weight making it tippy when you put a large iPhone 6+ into it’s slot. Also, the iPhone has to be removed from it’s case to fit into the slot. And the iPad Air2 just falls over instantly. To solve this, I put the iPad Air2 and the iTrack next to each other on my music stand. This also works better with my iPhone (when it’s in it’s case), too. And my $12 conductor’s stand is large enough to hold both my music and my iPhone/iTrack at that same time. Even if you are not a musician, get yourself a cheap but sturdy music stand so that you will have this adjustable platform for your video recordings.I’ve even drilled a hole in my music stand for the rear camera to shoot through and I have a short bungee cord I use to keep everything from falling off of it. This is now a great/cheap (under $100 not counting my iPhone) setup for my video recording from either the front facing or the rear cameras. The simplicity of using the free Impact app with the iTrack to capture great video and sound and then instantly upload it to YouTube is amazing!

  2. No computer required to transfer to a flash drive so I can use it anywhere. Later I plug the flash drive into a computer and work from there to edit anything I want. The instructions seem to have been composed by a non-native English speaker but I was able to figure it out. Recording in auto mode doesn’t always work if there is a lot of noise on the tape between songs. With a music editor that’s easily fixed. I use Sound Forge Audio Studio 9.0. Each song is about 4MB more or less. So a 32G flash drive should be plenty for most any collection. I have a small external speaker from another project that works great so I can hear if the really old tapes are jamming and I can stop it. Flash drive not included but many people already have one. The earphones are useful if you don’t have an external speaker or others in the room don’t like your music.

  3. I have been looking forward to converting tapes that my grandmother had recorded her bedtime stories and lullabies she sang to me as a child. She gave a cassette tape to everyone in the family a few years ago, and I wanted to convert it to mp3 and make CD copies for my entire family because of how limited cassette players are these days. The minute I received this in the mail, I was skeptical because of how light it was and how flimsy it looks. Very cheaply put together. I remember my own Walkman in the 1990’s being more sturdy and well-made! I put her tape into the unit, put 2 AA batteries in, plugged a USB flash drive into the side, and followed the directions (which were very hard to understand, by the way, as they were horribly translated to English from something else). While it did record, that’s the only positive thing I can say about this piece of junk. Once I transferred the recorded song onto the computer, I was extremely disappointed. The noises it made while I was recording actually transferred and was recorded into the song. I tried it again, but this time put the converter on a towel, hoping that it would resolve the clicking and vibrating noises. Didn’t do a thing to help. I tried it a 3rd time, and instead of using my copy of the cassette my grandma gave me, I used my daughter’s copy. Didn’t matter- the clicking, bumping, and distorted vibrating resumed and all the songs we ended up with had those noises recorded into the songs, not to mention the voice was recorded at a lower octave than what my grandmother actually sounds like. WAY overpriced at $36!! I immediately looked for Refund instructions and the very next day, returned this piece of junk. Amazon was very quick to give me my money back in form of Amazon credit, and you can bet I won’t be purchasing any more contraptions like this. My memories mean everything to me, and so I will continue searching for a product that will do the job correctly.

  4. I have been using it since I got it to convert my tape on books to MP3.So far so good, there are some sides that the volume is low and sometimes a side the volume will be too high. This may be attributed to if I am using my PC heavily as I do choose to use the USB Powered option to power the device instead of using batteries.I also need to stitch together the sides to complete the full book, to do this I recommend using Audacity (Free Program) to tweak the recordings.Audacity is free and easy to use you can youtube it to get a simple crash course.Someone asked if you can listen to Cassettes and you can, it comes with earphones. You could also use your cars USB to power the device and use the Headphones plug in with an Audio cable and run it to your cars inputThe Converter is very simple to use and so far (5 Books in) no problems. Very Happy with it so far!

  5. The Pioneer BDR-XD05B drive I purchased is one of the best choices for an external bluray / dvd writer currently available. I like that the drive flips open instead of using a slide out drawer or a disc insert slot. This makes it very easy to clean the drive and should make it easier to remove discs in case of a malfunction (though I have not had any problems). The drive is very fast and stable and does not run into buffering issues like I have seen in some of the other drives I have worked with. Supports every disc standard for CDs, DVDs, and Bluray up through quad layer BDXL (128 GB per disc) and dual layer DVD. The one I purchased comes in the retail box with manuals and cables as well as software including various Cyberlink tools to burn discs and PowerDVD to play DVD and Bluray movies. No driver or installation was required on Windows 10 and worked immediately upon plugin. The specs listed online for this drive indicate that it also supports long term storage Mdisc DVD and Bluray media as well in addition to all format types. Overall the drive is about everything one could hope for in an external bluray drive and also runs virtually silent quieter than most drives. One note of caution, make sure whatever computer you use this drive with that you have two USB ports near each other and at least one of those ports be a USB 3.0 port if you want to also make use of the higher data speeds of this drive:My one and only complaint about this otherwise fantastic drive is the USB cable uses two USB ports on your computer (one for power and one for data) (both USB larger rectangle type B on the cable) and due to the cable length both ports have to be close together on your computer. This posed a small problem on both my old computer and my new computer. On my laptop, I have one USB 3.0 (type B) port on each side of the laptop and one of the newest very versatile USB 3.1 ports (type C) on one side only so the only side of the laptop actually having two USB ports on my laptop needed for this drive were not the same type of port and included the newest USB 3.1 type C port and the USB 3.0 type B port. The cable included with the drive is unfortunately much too short to allow for the possibility of pluging into ports on both sides of the laptop so my solution was to purchase a USB hub device for my USB type C port which split that port and added USB 3.1 type C port, HDMI video, USB and two USB 3.0 type B ports on the connected hub. I then plugged the included double port cable for this bluray drive into one of the USB 3.0 port on my hub and also the USB 3.0 port located on my laptop next to the USB 3.1 port and that works well. Turns out it also works fine if I plug both ports of the included cable for this drive into the hub. Lesson be learned make sure you have two available USB ports close together on the computer you want to use with this drive. The drive itself supports a 5V power cable which is not included in the box. I assume that this could be used in place of the double port USB cable for power and allow connections to a single port only if one were to obtain a wall power adapter to fit the unused power port on the external drive.

  6. I was skeptical in purchasing this product because it was expensive (I purchased it May 17, 2017 for $99), and I had a bad previous experience with an external DVD read/write product with terrible results. Then, I purchased this product and plugged it into my laptop (I used both USB plus; one 2.0 & one 3.0), and it worked like a charm. When it spins up, you have to put the external player on a flat surface. The first time I tried it mine was not on a flat surface and it started to make a vibrating noise. Then I made sure it was on a flat surface and it worked wonderfully. I burned a DVD without a problem. [update] I have now burned 50 gb BluRay disk and it works flawlessly (read caution for tablets with 1 USB port below) I have not yet tried to burn a Blu-Ray.Pros:- Works seamlessly with computer- Spins quietly (no louder than an internal drive) – again, make sure it is on a very flat surface- Flip top allows easy inserting and ejecting media – I love this- Very small footprint – it’s as small as it can get- Sleek design – it helps that it looks nice next to the computer (i.e., not an eye-sore)- Cord is long enough to reach to the computer’s USB portsCons:- It does take two USB slots – one 2.0 & one 3.0 slot (it needs the 2.0 for more power, but I think it is possible to run off of just the 3.0 slot)- Surface Pro 3 does need a powered USB hub to supply power to the unit. If I use a non-powered USB hub, it has issues recognizing the drive. Surface Pro 3 only has one USB port. You might need to use a powered USB hub if you plug it into a tablet with on USB port.I am so happy with this purchase. I have been looking a long time for an external CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player. I purchased this at $99. I got it when the getting was good because I now see the price went up. It is a lot of money for an external writer; however, if you decide to buy it, all I can say is that you will NOT be disappointed in its performance. It was definitely worth the money I paid. I highly recommend this product!IMPORTANT IF YOU USE WITH Surface Pro 3 [10/29/2017 update]-THE PROBLEM: I bought this to eventually use it for an external CD/DVD/Blu-Ray to be used with my Surface Pro 3 (Win10 pro). I already used it with my laptop with no issues, but the Surface Pro 3 only has one USB slot and this requires two slots. I have read other reviews that this player can function with one USB cable plugged in and the only downside is that there will be some performance issues (i.e., two USB cables provide more power thus gives better performance). I can say with certainty that this is NOT the case. I plugged the one USB cable into my SP3 and the drive connected and disconnected multiple times within seconds to then finally be disconnected (i.e., unrecognizable by the OS). Furthermore, it rendered my SP3 unable to recognize the player when plugging it in “the right way” (see THE SOLUTION). This is important because I forgot to take a restore point thereby making my only alternative was to reset my Surface Pro 3 to factory defaults, which fixed the problem – but not good that I needed to do that to fix the problem. I also tried plugging in a unpowered USB hub so that I could plug in both USB cables into the hub and then plug the hub into my SP3. That also did not work – meaning the Surface Pro 3 did not have enough USB power from the one port to power both cable connections – also not good (this was done with my Surface Pro 3 plugged in).-THE SOLUTION: Here is what works for me when using this player with the Surface Pro 3. I purchased a powered USB hub (listed below). I now plug this player into the powered hub, turn on the power to the hub thereby powering the player, THEN plug the hub into the Surface Pro 3. Works every time. I can hot swap the powered USB hub or anything plugged into the hub using this configuration as long as the Hub has power. In other words, the power to the USB hub is acting like a power plug to this drive.Below is the Amazon product and link that I used to power the Pioneer Portable Drive. Make sure to power the USB hub on FIRST before either connecting the Drive to the Hub or the Hub to the computer (i.e., DO NOT connect the drive to the computer before powering the Hub).Anker 4-Port USB 3.0 Ultra-Slim Portable Data Hub with 12W Power Adapter for Macbook, Mac Pro / mini, iMac, XPS, Surface Pro, Notebook PCs and More $16.99 (as of 3/7/18)Lastly, I don’t know if this issue exists with other devices that only have one USB port, but I would image it would be a possibility. At a minimum, if you power Pioneer BDR-XD05B 6x Slim Portable drive with a powered USB hub, you should not have any issues, and you should be assured to gain the maximum performance from this drive. Always make sure the Hub is powered before connecting the drive to the Hub or the Hub to the computer, and you should not have any issues. Now, if you ask me if all this is worth it? Oh yea. I am now burning 45 gb backups from my SSD drive. The Blu-Ray drive functions like a charm. I have burned 4 Blu-Ray disks with no issues. TIP: I zip all my files up using 7zip with no compression (takes about 10 min) and then burn one 45 gb file to the Blu-Ray disk. It takes about 1.5 – 2 hours hours to burn 45 gb. Not bad for 45 gb (that’s the equivalent of burning 10 DVDs). SIDENOTE: a 50 gb double layer only gives you 45.1 gb of usable disk space.GIVE Reviews – this is my standard for writing reviews[G]enuine – This is a review that is honest, trustworthy with no reason other than to help people in the Amazon family.[I]nformational – This review needs to provide information related to this product in a concise matter.[V]aluable – This review needs to provide value to the reader such that it helps him or her determine if this product is for them.[E]nlightening – This review needs to go beyond product information such that the reader learns something they did not otherwise know.END OF REVIEW – the following talks about helpful votes, which you can skip if you like.Sometime I read a review and click “yes” if I found the review helpful. But what does that mean? It does help keep the review at the top, so others can see the review. It also improves my ranking. But, to me it means more than that. I check my helpful votes when I wake up in the morning. Hey, some people like watching the morning news; some people collect stamps. I check my helpful votes. If they go up, then I know I helped someone, which starts my day off really nice. It gives me the same good feeling as helping by fixing someone’s flat tire who is stranded on the side of the road. So, if you click “yes,” then know that tomorrow morning I’ll be saying thank you with a smile to start my day 🙂

  7. Folks need to beware – they aren’t supporting the app any longer, or at least they aren’t making a priority out if it. If you update your device to IOS 11, it the app will stop operating. You won’t be able to properly record or save files out of the app. Because of this, I can’t recommend purchasing it.

  8. Need to download a driver (documented in instructions). Be sure to follow instructions carefully. But then it worked perfectly.

  9. For under $20, it’s hard to go wrong with something like this. I have used the iTrack Pocket to make multiple videos at this point. It’s small, works well, and the impact app is helpful in fine tuning either in the app itself or sending the video over to iMovie. The negatives are all small, but they are as follows:1. The phone slot is just a bit too narrow for my iPhone X. I can get it in with some force, but that inevitably hits the power or volume buttons. If you had a case on it, you would have to remove it for sure. I even have to remove the case on my iPhone 8.2. I can’t seem to figure out how to get stereo input on the 1/4″ input. That’s not the biggest deal, but newer phones will play audio in stereo and you can tell it’s only coming from one side. There is no easy way to duplicate the audio after the fact in the impact app or in iMovie on a phone. You can do it with a few extra steps in iMove on a Mac.3. It really drains power. With full battery power today I recorded 3 takes on a song with a little noodling between. Average video lengths were 5 mins and the front facing camera was probably on for about 20 mins total. I was at 20% when I wrapped the 3rd take.4. Maybe this is really 3a… there is no charger input. It would really be nice if you could either charge the phone or provide external power to the iTrack.Still, I don’t regret this purchase and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a quick and easy way to get a video or track down.
