  1. OMG fantastically easy to learn and use. It has so many add-ins, that it’s so easy to populate. I think the only thing that it can improve the product is having create items requested by users.

  2. Sweet Home 3D is a freeware program that is very easy to learn and use. It is no substitute for a professional CAD program and does not do exteriors, but it does what it is advertised to do and does it quite nicely. I say it is freeware because you can go to their home website and download the exact same program and furniture collections for free, but you have to download each and install the program and import the collections. By buying it through Amazon, you get the program and all available furniture collections packaged into one installation program and you provide the developers with a little cash for their efforts. If you are not sure if this is for you, start at the Sweet Home 3D website and try it as a Java program that runs online in your browser. You can try it out, watch the tutorials linked on the website, and read the how-to’s and decide if it is what you want. What the program allows you to do is draw the walls of a floorplan and add in windows and doors in a very easy drag and drop fashion. You then add in the floor and drop in furniture. Next, select the color of each wall, the floor, and each item of furniture. You can even add in dimensions and print it all out as a floorplan. To see what it looks like as built, switch to the 3D screen and you will see it as if you are actually looking at the completed room. You can walk through each room and see it as you would see it in person. If you can’t find an item of furniture or a door or window you need, you can install the free Sketchup Make program, search the Sketchup 3D Warehouse and import any 3D model, or draw your own in Sketchup (steep learning curve, but worth it). Then you can export the Sketchup model as a Collada file and import that file in Sweet Home 3D and use it in your floorplan. On a final note, I have used Sweet Home 3D for two months now on Windows 7 and have never experienced a crash or error, so I appears to be a solid program.

  3. I used 3D Home Architect ($90) years ago and it has very similar abilities to this $15 program. Before purchasing this though, I played with a few free download program from various vendors ranging in price from $60-$200. This program can do the basics even better than most expensive programs. I am very impressed with the simplicity in drawing walls, adding windows, doors, rooms, furniture, etc. Many of the other systems were complicated and took quite a learning curve just to draw walls. I would not expect to use program to turn plans directly over to a builder, but it will save you thousands in architectural fees by laying out your own floor-plan first. Once you design the interior, just turn it over to the architect for all the blueprint details. I’m using Windows 7 and it runs great. I was a little concerned by the description as to which OS versions it supports, but a 64-bit Win 7 runs great. I have not tried it on Windows 10, but will be soon.

  4. This software downloaded into my Windows-10 operating system without a hitch. The handbook seems to have all the instructions but I picked up nearly everything that I needed by trial and error. Friends tell me the 3-D view is just what they see on TV on the make-over programs.

  5. I installed the program on my home desk top Dell which is running Windows 10. The install went fast and without problems. I found the software easy to use. It has characteristics the same as many other types of software. The manual that comes with the software gets you off to a good start. It only took a few sessions to gain a good feel as to how the program works. I especially like to click & drag of components into the layout. The wide variety of components are to scale and speed up the design process. There was also a link which allowed you to go on-line and download additional components for free. I can not believe the capabilities for such a low price.

  6. Very steep learning curve with much difficulty getting things to move and turn. Once you add a wall, it’s hard to stop the program. You have to remember to always press escape. But it certainly does help trying to visualize what a room would look like. We are trying to redesign a kitchen. It’s frustrating, because even buying the retail version from Amazon, there are common things that just aren’t in the program and silly things that are – for example, when designing a kitchen, would you design with an island or a drinking glass. There are more choices of glasses than islands! It’s turning out to be a help.
