  1. I love it!… i walked away from roland many years ago because of the poor sounding piano sounds on the fantom ( i almost got depressed becausr those things didn’t come cheap). I was a little scare to buy this but the demos and videos in Youtube kept me hooked so i decided to go for it…. with no regrets!!… the workflow is awesome plus you can tweak any sound to make more likeable to your ears or to the mix…Downside: the brasses could be better out of the box, even the ones you download from the site are a little thin sounding.

  2. If you want an electric piano, buy this. It will be good for you or your child. Actually, it is not just good. You cannot get a better action. There is a better Roland piano, but it does not have all the feature this machine has.Bad reviews are not verified, and they are ridiculos. You can upload more sounds from the Integra 7.I bought this in 2016 and recently updated the firmware to version 2.0. Thank you Roland.

  3. *021818 Update. Found out a couple of major negatives after finishing a song and attempting to mix it down to a WAV file. For some incredible reason, Roland decided to not allow samples assigned to the pads to be mixed down with MIDI tracks meaning, if you arrange a song that uses samples triggered by the pads, the stereo mix down will be absent of those samples. This is straight up BS when my old Fantom G6 could accomplish this task very easily. Samples have to be exported separately on the FA-08. By allowing this blunder in the FA-08 Roland is essentially forcing its userbase to depend on a DAW which I never found necessary while using the Fantom G6.The other issue is the sampler. There are features present in the Fantom G series that are not present here. It seems the FA-08 can’t record a sample and play a sample at the same time. So for example, if you’re trying to record background vocals but need to hear the sample of the lead singer while doing so, tough luck. The FA-08 won’t allow this. It also seems that samples can’t be time stretched which is something else the Fantom G series is able to do but the FA-08 cannot. Also while Rhythm section parts can be synced with the tempo set on the FA-08, the samples assigned to the pads cannot. How Roland could screw this up so royally is anyone’s guess but it seems like they need to hire some better software engineers. The sad part about this affair is actually playing and mixing the song I was working on was a dream (minus the lack of mouse support, the smaller screen, the missing 24 audio track support and the lack of skipback sampling). Seriously. The FA-08 sounds great, streamlined some of the clutter of the Fantom G and the FA-08 sequencer is better for playing+arranging (the Fantom G sequencer is good but leans more toward pattern creation). So much potential here but Roland yet again finds a way to poison their own tech with decisions that make absolutely no sense. Hence 1* deduction. I still like the FA-08 and I would still recommend it but only to a more specific type of musician that isn’t dependent on the sampler and isn’t familiar with other synths that supports features that Roland removed compared to the Fantom G series. First impressions – I upgraded to the FA-08 from a Roland Fantom G6. Although the Fantom G6 is no slouch and I’ll use it as a reference, the FA-08 is a better workstation in many ways. I use music workstations mainly to produce and arrange songs for videos and presentations and to learn better ways to play overall. My thoughts after a marathon of using and learning the FA-08.The FA-08 is more streamlined in its button layout and functions allowing for the same level of flexibility in producing and arranging as the Fantom G6 but with less clutter. The screen is a 5 inch color screen that does a great job of giving a lot of details about sounds, song data, sequencer data and mixes based on what you’re doing at any given time. The signature sampler pad layout of the Fantom G series is present here but smaller allowing for easy programmable functions. Instead of relying on the internal memory and a 1GB DIMM upgrade (max) for sample memory as the Fantom G series did, the FA series uses SDHC cards up to 32GBs. I have read that a 64GB card works but have not been able to test this yet. SDXC support would have been better obviously but even with the included 4GB card, that’s nearly 4x the storage for sample and song data as the FA-08 can read and write to it. The Fantom G6 can’t real and write to a thumb drive by comparison and doesn’t support SD cards at all relying on internal memory and the optional 1GB Dimm. The FA-08 sequencer is very similar to the Fantom G series and some other Roland workstations. For anyone familiar with Roland gear, the transition will be very fast. For everyone else, prepare for a bit of a learning curve as Roland gear can be hard to learn for the uninitiated. There are 16 tracks available compared to the 16 tracks + 24 audio tracks of the Fantom G6. But there have been key changes to the way the sequencer works on the FA-08 that makes it more intuitive when arranging and recording. Selecting instruments, recording tracks in succession and changing sound parameters on the fly are all well done.Sound quality is fantastic overall. The Fantom G6 has a good selection of tones generally but the FA-08 is superior supporting SuperNatural sounds by default. SuperNatural sounds are what shipped with the Fantom G series expansion boards that provided more nuanced, more realistic tones. The FA-08 also supports Roland’s Axial sound library which offers thousands of additional tones for free, for FA users as well as other workstations. I’ve found a lot of upgraded old school tones from the XP series. Some tones that didn’t sound that great to me in my XP-50 days sound phenomenal on the FA-08. There are a wealth of tones and kits to work with here. The FA-08 has weighted keys and they feel great but admittedly I’m still getting used to them coming from years of use of the Fantom G6 which has plastic keys. The workstation is also a slimmer design but longer obviously, to accommodate the 88 key layout. It’s a very well built, attractive piece of equipment. There are two expansion slots for sound expansion. These are virtual meaning it’s not necessary to open up the board and install physical sound cards like a surgeon. Sound expansions are installed via thumb drive or SDcard (using an adapter). The cons, because we all know no device is perfect.- The Fantom G6 supported mouse navigation but the FA-08 does not. Some may not understand what the fuss is about but mouse navigation was not only faster and more intuitive on the Fantom G compared to the lack thereof on the FA-08 but it also saves wear on the face buttons of the workstation. That same wear is what my XP-50 ultimately succumbed to after years of use.- The FA-08’s lack of the 24 audio tracks present on the Fantom G hurts. It made arranging samples in the sequencer amazingly easy to do with a visual aesthetic that was very easy to follow.- Although the FA-08 supports Windows 10 (the Fantom G series was abandoned by Roland with no Windows 10 support) it doesn’t support drag and drop of data between computers and the workstation via USB. In 2018 Roland still handles data transfers between devices clumsily. Eject the SD card or thumb drive, download files on the computer, transfer to thumb drive or SD card, reinsert storage on the FA-08 while it’s powered off, press and hold a button while powering on to apply update data or to install a sound collection. As opposed to, open up the FA-08 folder that appears on your PC while connected via USB, drag and drop necessary files to the root of the FA-08 SD card.- Lack of SDXC support for SD cards of 128GBs or larger.- Only two slots for sound expansions are available. To be fair, this may not matter to some people because of the variety of high quality sounds already present on the FA-08. But after looking through Axial for 5 minutes, it becomes painfully clear that the FA-08 would have greatly benefited from 4 expansion slots instead of 2.- It’s 2018 but Roland still hasn’t supported touch screens yet.The FA-08 is a incredibly workstation that can handle the needs of musicians playing live, in the studio, for hobbyist or as a teaching tool for those looking to learn.
