  1. I purchased this hoping to get a sound quality boost vs plugging my headset into the controller. It sounds identical either way so I don’t see the point of having this currently… I went back and forth mid game on Black Ops 3 and there was no sound benefit of one over the other.

  2. Have problems getting guitar buttons to work?If like me, you’re stuck at the ‘Press Any Button On Guitar Controller’ screen then use the following steps to fix it:Method One1.Disable the Internet on your PS4. (It’s in Settings > Network > Internet, just uncheck it.)2.Go back into Guitar Hero Live. Problem solved. If not, try method two.Method Two1.Turn off your PS4. Do not turn it on using your controller. Turn on the console using the button on the console itself.2.Navigate to open Guitar Hero Live using the Guitar controller. The small knob can be tilted in all directions to move the cursor and you can press X by pressing button 1 on the guitar controller.

  3. Guitar Hero has made a name for itself as the premier party, music rhythm title beginning on the PS2. The sabbatical that it took after the onslaught of plastic instrument hell gamers experienced with Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3 was much needed. After going back to the drawing board to revitalize the genre, FreeStyleGames eliminated the classic 5-button setup to give players a new 3-by-2 button layout, but does that make it a better game?FreeStyleGames has now taken the helm, in light of Neversoft (the previous developers) closing. The aesthetic has definitely changed, for better or worse. While the signature punk-cartoon style of the previous entries is ultimately gone, FreeStyle has seen to it to make the game’s universe their own and inject a new sense of realism to the series. Players in Live mode now see themselves taking the role of a freelance guitarist who plays in gigs with fictional bands from the States and England abroad. It’s all displayed in first-person and mildly entertaining to see real live people overacting the part. FreeStyleGames took the live-action gameplay two steps further by adding reactionary footage based on the player’s ability to play a song. Now, if would-be guitar heroes perform well, they’ll be treated to adoring fans and encouraged to continue shredding. In contrast, if audiences are not satisfied with the amount of missed strums or generally poor performance of the player they will sure to let them know by booing the band and tossing refuse towards the stage. There aren’t many songs on-disc, but what is there is serviceable and a good introduction to using the new guitar. Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Imagine Dragons, The Black Keys, Wolfmother, The Killers, and many other acts round out the pop-rock catalog, while entries from Katy Perry, Skrillex, Eminem, and Rihanna do their best to add some diversity to the line-up. There’s not much replayability with these songs in particular, but that is where the franchise’s new Guitar Hero TV (GHTV) mode comes into play.GHTV is essentially a 24-hour music video network that broadcasts two simultaneously channels of songs for the games. Players can think of it like having MTV and VH1 of old playing music videos while running the iconic Guitar Hero track for gamers to play to while watching their favorite songs. Every half hour sees a new theme in the channels for players to strum to with themes akin to “Rock of the 90s” or “Indie Hits”. If playing songs at random is not preferred, there is also the ability for guitar heroes to select songs from GHTV’s massive 100+ song catalog with play tokens that can be earned from playing the channels or buying tokens with real cash. The promise of rotating out old songs for new songs by FreeStyle every so often gives players something to look forward to as the Guitar Hero Live ages, but if the game’s lifespan or popularity will afford such an endeavor remains to be seen.GHTV also supports a leveling system that enables players to shred with others online, as well as encounter rivals that they can play head-to-head against and compete for the highest score. Along with score, guitar heroes are able to earn coins that can, as previously mentioned, buy free play tokens and upgrades to their guitar’s abilities, allowing for more hero segments on songs or increased multipliers to rack up score faster. The guitar itself is a solid piece of equipment. It is wireless with support from a USB-based dongle on the PS4. There’s not much to praise or criticize about the device, it gets the job done. The game itself is fairly bare bones when compared to the features Harmonix is implementing in their rival Rock Band series with Rock Band 4. However, Guitar Hero Live finds its identity in offering a unique and focused guitar experience, where Rock Band 4 busies itself with a whole band ensemble and sticking with the familiar 5-button guitar layout. While there is little in the way of narrative or story, GHTV offers fantastic replayability in allowing wannabe guitar heroes extra songs to play at no additional cost. If FreeStyle can keep the service up with new songs on the regular, GHTV can really give the game the legs it needs to be the ultimate party title.TL;DR: Long-time Guitar Hero and Rock Band fans interested in a new challenge will find a lot to like in the new 3-by-2 button layout. Gamers looking for career-style modes or replayability won’t find much of that here, save for the promise of endless music video jams with GHTV.4/5

  4. I originally purchased this as an in-line amp for a PS4 headset. The photos don’t show the other end of the cable, I don’t have an Elite Pro headset, and no description of the AMP anywhere that I could find actually described the connector. So I took a chance and ordered it (because I couldn’t find any photos anywhere else at all). Unfortunately I found that the other end is the proprietary Turtle Beach connector, presumably the same connector the Elite Pro headset has. While I’m sure it works fine for the intended purpose, neither the product description nor the photos gave me the information I needed to tell whether to order it or not. For this reason I am docking it one star.I’m also attaching a photo I took of the other end of the cable in case anyone in the future ends up wondering the same thing I did.

  5. I’ve been a guitar hero player since GH2 came out. I’ve played both Rock Band and Guitar Hero throughout my teenage years and within a month of each other’s recent release, they have both been revived into the scene. Guitar Hero Live brings a new playstyle to the board offering a new guitar with 6 buttons across 3 frets. A total of 9 possible different notes to play, along with an open chord note compared to the original 5 colored buttons the old games and Rock Band offer. The guitar is different, and a lot of people don’t like that. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, right? But honestly, for veterans like me, it’s a breath of fresh air to have a new play-style offered; it sets it apart from the previous titles that were becoming stale. It’s like being a newbie all over again and working my way back up to expert mode, and that excitement & progression when I was a teenager was half the fun.The game offers a live (career) mode, where you play through pre-made setlists as the guitarist to your band and watch live reactions of the crowd as you play. Their mood changes drastically as you play, whether that be a good or bad thing. It’s a breath of fresh air instead of the cartoon character models. The other mode is a new feature to Guitar Hero called GHTV. It is basically a live radio that offers a couple channels for everybody to join in and play along with, tracking your high score vs other players and letting you earn EXP and gold to buy cool new things like different power ups, chart skins, and player cards. You also can buy “plays” to specifically choose songs out of the entirety of the GHTV playlist that YOU would like to play right away, instead of waiting for the radio to play it. You do have limited plays when it comes to this, and this is where Guitar Hero Live gets a bit iffy. It offers micro-transactions to buy more plays, or a “24 hour access pass” to the playlist where you can choose the songs you’d like to play for $5.99. This can really put off some players, myself included. The idea of paying for stuff like this after already paying 60 for the game and 40 for the guitar is obscene. However, you do NOT have to pay for this, and can very easily earn in-game gold by playing songs through the live radio rotation, and then buying your plays through that gold instead of real money. You can also earn plays by leveling up and doing premium playlists (higher level content). It is fair, in my opinion, but a cheap way to earn some extra money from Activision. Overall, I think the mode is definitely unique and interesting, and I’m assuming over time they will continue to add more songs into the library, offer more free channels that rotate to play on, and likely have DLC for new songs, however that make work with this GHTV system.

  6. 60 seconds in to my first match of Rocket League, I scored a goal. Since that moment, its been a blur of whiffing balls, epic saves, and climbing aerials. Every game I feel like I have learned something to get a little bit better. Now I am 200+ hours into this game and I dont think I will ever truly stop playing it. This is one of the greatest multiplayer experiences around.

  7. I thought it would be a good idea to buy a video game to play with my son. I mean, if he spends so much time playing, why not to use this opportunity? Now, he is into all these games that don’t really look attractive to me, e.g. Plants vs. Zombies, Minecraft, etc. (yeah, yeah, I know they are cool). Anyway, I asked him what should I buy and he gave me a few options, Rocket League was one of them. I watched the game’s trailer and to be honest, wasn’t impressed. But kiddo asked me to trust him. So I did. Three days later, I found myself playing this game in the middle of the night. Alone. It’s a great game, we laugh and scream playing it. I am not good at it at all: it’s so hard to kick the ball, I just keep making circles around it. But it is FUN, I truly enjoy it. Especially, when I win.

  8. I’m kinda new to the ps4 scene. I bought all the popular games -Ghost Recon -Uncharted all the shoot em up games and I quickly got burned out. I wanted something different. I came across Rocket League by just browsing on Amazon. I bought it and WOW this game is fun. The concept is so redic and stupid but it works. Driving around in a car playing soccer. This game is awesome. Let me add this..I don’t have internet so I just played the campaign or exhibition and it’s so much fun. I can’t imagine playing online versus other people. And I played with my gf and it was split screen. The game was still awesome. So..bottom line this game is fun and keeps you entertained for hours.

  9. Although it sounds like there is no audio boost in terms of loudness, there is boost in the sense that the game sounds come off a little clearer and vibrant , but that’s in my case I don’t know about anyone else. Cable is long so you never have to worry about being too far from your system to play. If you have the extra money and are either not going to get the T.A.C mixamp or you’re waiting a bit before purchasing one, this is a decent substitute for the regular wire in that the mic monitoring is helpful in that since the Elite Pro is noise-cancelling, most of the time you might not be able to hear yourself through the headset so having that ability is really helpful when it comes to the headset. I am going to get the T.A.C eventually but for now I’m satisfied with this addition.
